Work Issues

Just when I think I've heard and seen it all at work, last Monday happened. Let me back track, the Friday before I get a phone call at 5pm. Co-worker calls and informs me someone smoked pot in the bathroom, the whole office smelled, and everyone knew what happened. Of course no bosses worked last Friday! I knew Monday morning was already not going to be fun. I hate being involved firing people. I was in complete shock about this phone call. Our office is small, why would someone be so stupid!

Monday morning comes, the owner and myself meet with this person. Of course they deny smoking pot, claiming they didn't even have any on them THAT DAY! (what) Claims the smell came from there bag, because they had a brick of dope in it the night before (huh, is this seriously happening) the owner says, "you brought a brick to office" they claim they didn't bring it to work, and then they say "I'm selling it now because I need to make some extra cash" "I'm looking for another part-time job, but in the meantime this is what I have to do" We said a drug tested needed to be taken, and they asked for us to him them a few weeks, they were trying to clean out there system, and wouldn't be able to pass a test right now. Of course we said no, a test had to be given that day, they wanted to quit, instead of us firing them. Then they proceeded to ask if we would let them collect unemployment for a few weeks. (I wanted to scream are you f****** crazy!) (what the hell is wrong with you)

We were back to square one again, needed to fill a position. It's hard finding the right person, and we don't have much time. I'm part-time, and the other office person will be taking maternity leave in a few months. Great timing for someone to smoke and sell dope at work! I'm still shocked. What the hell is wrong with people. Why do we hire the crazy people.

OMG!

the unfortunate thing is, I've had to fire people for testing positive for drugs and even though we fight to deny them unemployment benefits, IDES still gives it to them. Ri-friggin-diculous! Only in this state . . . .
