A Little About Me

I'm from a small town, is usually my response when people ask where I'm from. I always wanted to move to the big city. Rockford was a big city to me back then. Yes, I know, I truly had no idea what a big city was! We spent our summers outside playing at the park, swimming, jumping on the trampoline, etc. Always complaining to each other we were bored. I'd love to have one more summer like that now. Oh! When I say "we" I come from a family of 4. 1 sister, and 2 brothers. I can't remember a time back then when we actually all liked each other at the same time. Usually my youngest brother and I would play together. He of course always made friends with everyone. I was so jealous of that. He could just walk up to someone and say "want to play" Then I had the phase where I wanted to be exactly like my sister. She hated when I tagged along. Now as an adult I can see that happened to every little sister. My older brother and I had a pretty big age gap between us. 10 years. He also moved out when he was 16. So honestly I never really had a relationship with him. Everyone always got along, but as for "real" relationships between us and him not so much. He has been living in the city for 5 months now, and this is the first time ever we've been able to spend time together. I'm thankful for the opportunity we have to really know each other. It's unfortunate he's been dealing with some tough personal issues. He's much stronger than he gives himself credit for.

I've learned as an adult you have to make an effort when it comes to relationships. Just because your family it doesn't automatically define what your relationship is. My siblings for the most part all live about an hour or so away from me. We try to take turns on who visit who and where, we also spend time together as couples. We are lucky all spouses like each other.

So, for as much as I wanted to escape the "small town" theme, I'm thankful I come from it. I truly believe it has helped make me who I am today. I'm proud of being sweet, respectful, honest, family orientated, and grounded.
